National Certification for North Carolina CTE Programs

AAH's RMA Certification Is Now Approved in North Carolina

American Allied Health (AAH) has been approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Office of Career and Technical Education to offer its Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification in North Carolina CTE programs, beginning in the 2027-28 school year. The AAH RMA is aligned with the state’s Medical Assisting courses (HU45 and HU46). North Carolina learners, educators, and employers can look forward to a nationally recognized medical assistant credential that is flexible, affordable, and available fully online.

Preparing Students for In-Demand Careers

Healthcare is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy, creating steady and rewarding career opportunities. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects employment in healthcare support occupations to grow 15.2%, and in healthcare practitioners and technical occupations to grow 8.6%, from 2023 to 2033, well ahead of the 4.0% average for all occupations. This growth is caused by an aging population, rising chronic conditions, and constant demand for preventative care.

Allied health is a broad field that includes medical assistants, EKG technicians, pharmacy technicians, and more. These roles are essential to patient care and in demand in all 50 states. For North Carolinians ready to take the next step, certification through American Allied Health (AAH) offers a flexible, convenient, and nationally recognized pathway into the profession.

A New Option for North Carolina Public Schools

North Carolina public schools can now offer the AAH RMA certification, approved by the NC Department of Public Instruction. High school students take the exam onsite at their school, as part of their Medical Assisting coursework.

AAH certifications are endorsed by multiple U.S. State Departments of Education and Workforce Development and appear on their Industry Recognized Credential (IRC) lists. These endorsements reflect each state's rigorous review process and confirm that AAH credentials meet high standards for workforce readiness, educational value, and employer recognition. This localized state-by-state approach best addresses the patchwork of requirements to ensure members have a recognized credential in their state of employment.

Further, CareerOneStop, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, recognizes AAH certifications as part of its national database of approved credentials. This recognition affirms our commitment to career-ready, high-quality certification for allied health professionals on a national level. Reference the endorsements here: US DoL CareerOneStop.
